"Evaluation is an integral part of the teaching and learning process."
According to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Grade 9 Core French program requires that "assessment methods and their use in the classroom must be fair and equitable for all students. Evaluation provides essential information to students, teachers, parents and administrators. All assessment and evaluation activities must reflect the specific learning outcomes of the Intermediate Core French Program".

As mentioned in the section "Goals", oral comprehension is worth 60% and written comprehension is worth 40%. It is important for students and parents to understand that The Core French Program is not strictly about grammar mistakes. It is about educating the students to the best of their ability and to be able to communicate if ever given the chance in a French environment.
Your child will be evaluated on many different pieces of work throughout the term. The evaluation scheme consists of:
A Portfolio: 20% of final grade ( This consist of all written work such as work sheets, journal entries, work book, etc.)
Tests/Quizzes: 35% of final grade ( Students will have a midterm and a final. They will also have small quizzes throughout the term on covered content and vocabulary from each section).
Projects: 35% of final grade (Students will be responsible for a project at the end of each unit. Each project is different and is centered on the specifics of the section) ** You can see the required projects under the website page "Activities"
Participation: 10% of final grade (Students will be assessed on their participation in class, how they work in groups, their work done on time, and as well small interviews throughout the term. These interviews will be short consisting of only 5 questions which will be covered and practiced in class).
Each piece of evaluation is different because there so many diverse learners in the class and also it will help to engage all students. I will be using a rubric when assessing each piece of evaluation. By using a rubric, it gives each child a chance to better succeed and also it makes it easier and fair when marking each individual student.
